GAMSAT Questions

A word about the passages and questions that follow. Some of them are harder than you will find on the GAMSAT Exam (somewhat harder, not astronomically so). There’s a good reason for that. It’s not just that athletes always practice on tougher training grounds than the ones they will have to perform on during the day of the race, it’s that the GradMed questions and, as importantly, the accompanying explanations have been specially designed to teach you the finer points of verbal reasoning, not just to give you the outcome of a score. You have to do the GradMed course, of course, to get the benefit of that teaching, but it’s worth it, because once you learn to deal with the demands of the GradMed papers, the exam is a piece of cake. These questions have been created to reflect the current standard of GAMSAT. To emulate the ‘real’ timing of the test you should aim to complete this section in 50 minutes. In the Written Communication examination you have half an hour to convince the examiner that you have the qualities necessary to gain a good mark. In order to achieve this objective you have to be interesting enough to read, and this means that you have to do what all successful writers do, which is to engage the reader.
