MOCK INTERVIEWS FOR
MEDICINE, DENTISTRY AND VETERINARY SCIENCE
'Tomorrow's Doctors'
published by the GMC in 1993 was instrumental in triggering the need for a
change in the training undergone by doctors. Medical schools reassessed and
revamped their courses resulting in what has frequently been referred to as the
'New Curriculum'. Self-directed learning, a more problem-solving based
approach, and greater focus on the human touch and the ability to communicate,
are all central to the training doctors and medical professionals receive
today.
The final hurdle in the tough process of gaining admission to
medical school is the most eagerly awaited event and yet one that intersperses
joy with trepidation. Clearly the enormity and importance of the situation
calls for a clear head and preparation. The key to success is communicating
well and showing effective and well thought out reasons in wishing to pursue a
career in medicine.
These are just some of the attributes that the
interviewing panel would be looking for:
- Energy, stamina, enthusiasm and a positive
approach
- Determination, perseverance and a sense of
service
- Curiosity in the exploration of thought and
science
- Responsibility, leadership potential and a sense of
teamwork
- Adept at problem solving and solution finding
- Ability and confidence to overcome challenges, both
personal and professional
- Ability to listen, hear and reflect
- An understanding of inner self
- Empathy
We offer individual mock interviews in
appropriate simulated sessions. Guidance is given
on all aspects resulting in an action plan for further development. The
purpose of these sessions is to
help clarify thought and purpose, enhance reading
and research, and put into practice effective understanding.
