St George’s University of London Medical School at University of Nicosia, Cyprus now open
The collaboration between St George’s and the University of Nicosia has seen the opening of the first medical school in Cyprus, to be known as St George’s University of London (SGUL) Medical School at the University of Nicosia. The programme has been modelled on the successful graduate entry stream in the UK and those on the course are regarded as students at SGUL. Upon completion of the course students will be awarded the MBBS by the British medical school, and will be eligible for provisional registration with a licence to practise with the UK General Medical Council.
The entry requirements for this programme mirror those required by SGUL, but it is possible to sit GAMSAT or MCAT. This could be another interesting option for applicants in the UK. Whilst the University of Nicosia is private and its fees are higher than those currently quoted by SGUL, there are scholarships and bursaries available. The current intake includes students for as far afield as Australia and North American so allows for a truly international environment and cultural mix.
