How does GAMSAT work in the UK?
GAMSAT is currently used by a total of 15 medical schools in the UK to select mainly for 4-year graduate entry courses and some 5-year courses. The exam is held twice a year in late-March and mid-September and you will get your results from ACER in either mid-May or mid-November. For entry in September of a given year, you will need to sit the exam in the preceding year, or in the September of the year you are applying.
This means you have the rather curious situation of applying to medical school by the UCAS October 15th deadline, before you actually know your GAMSAT result! Don’t worry this is normal and what the majority of students do. If you do choose to sit the exam in the year before you apply remember your GAMSAT result is valid for two years and so you can choose to bank your GAMSAT score earlier.
Of course remember GAMSAT in most cases will only get you to an interview and then it’s up to you to convince the medical school to offer you a place.
